The Institution and Leadership

About Top Rock University

We started Top Rock University because we believe traditional higher education is broken. It's too slow, too expensive, and too ineffective. We all see the problems, but it gets worse when you dig deeper.

  • The average cost of college for four years is $142,880¹. That's $214,320 for six years.
  • The six-year graduation rate at open-enrollment universities is 34%². Many are worse - the University of Phoenix reported 15.6% in 2019³.
  • Only 27% of people work in a field related to their major⁴.
  • Only 13% of Americans strongly agree college graduates are well-prepared for success in the workplace⁵.

That's bad, but here's the worst news — traditional colleges and universities aren't changing any time soon. There's no incentive. They take student loans regardless of whether or not their students succeed.

The good news is that it doesn't have to be this way.

We started Top Rock as an alternative to these traditional schools. Our mission is students' success, which means:

  • Reducing the downside by saving students time and money. Most students graduate in 1-4 years. All students graduate with $0 of student debt.
  • Increasing the upside by focusing on skills and entrepreneurship. Students learn in-demand skills for life and work that help them get a good job or start a business.

Here's how we do it:

  1. Make it cheaper by using technology, eliminating campus overhead, and avoiding administrative bloat.
  2. Make it faster by eliminating busywork and roadblocks. Students progress when they prove competency. They take courses anytime, not just at the start of a semester.
  3. Make it better with just-in-time learning, not just-in-case memorizing. Students learn by doing practical projects that they'll apply in the real world.

Top Rock was built from the ground up to give students what they want today and what they need tomorrow. The world is changing faster than ever, and we're passionate about preparing students for whatever the future holds.
